DETROIT (AP) – At the beginning of the second half, Antoine Davis broke Stephen Curry's record with 3 points and finished the race with 20 points. This brought Detroit Mercy on Thursday night, a victory of 87-85 against IUPUI.
Davis took a 30-foot foot from the right wing to shot # 123 beyond the arch, surpassing the mark of Curry, set at Davidson 12 years ago. The feat was celebrated just before a scant crowd at Calihan Hall where the public speaker said the story was made to the audience while a graphic was displayed on the video boards to reveal that Curry's record was broken.
The Golden State Warriors superstar says he heard about Davis, adding that he does not know that he still holds the Division I record for 3-pointers made by a freshman.
The 6-foot-1 guard adjusted the mark of Curry with a 3-pointer in the first half. Davis was 7 out of 20 players in the field, 4 out of 12 on 3-pointers, and had six assists, including one with Josh McFolley's 3-pointer 45.5 seconds before the start. He is coached by his father, Mike Davis, a former coach in Indiana.
McFolley scored 25 points for the Titans (11-18, 8-9 Horizon League). Camron Justice had 22 points for the Jaguars (16-13, 8-9).
