Defending champion Brazil, whose players themselves also had doubts about a tournament in their own country, opens the tournament against Venezuela on Sunday. “We are against the organization of the Copa América, but we will never say ‘no’ to the Brazilian squad,” the Brazilian players said in a statement.

Four Eredivisie players

Four football players from the Eredivisie are participating in the Copa América. Nicolás Tagliafico and Lisandro Martínez of Ajax are part of the Argentine selection and Miguel Araujo and Sergio Peña of FC Emmen play for Peru.

The ten participating countries are divided into two groups. The final will be held on Saturday, July 10, in Rio de Janeiro’s Maracanã Stadium.
