The essentials in brief: TSV 1860 Munich can continue its role as a second division terror in the DFB Cup against Karlsruher SC. “I think it’s a good draw,” said captain Sascha Mölders on Sunday evening after the draw for the round of 16 games on ARD.
The “Lions” are the last remaining Bavarian club in the traditional cup, as goalscorer Mölders explicitly emphasized. He expects “a game at eye level” on January 18 or 19, 2022 in the Grünwalder Stadium. Even though Mölders declared his third-division team to be outsiders, he sees “definitely good chances” of advancing to the quarter-finals.
In the first two rounds of the cup, coach Michael Köllner’s team had already beaten second division teams SV Darmstadt 98 and FC Schalke 04.
Defending champions Borussia Dortmund have to play away at current second division leaders FC St. Pauli. Another attractive round of 16 is the Berlin local derby between Hertha BSC and 1. FC Union. Borussia Mönchengladbach, who surprisingly defeated record cup winners FC Bayern Munich 5-0 in the second round, are visiting second division club Hannover 96.
