Diesel is cheaper and the government does not touch the ISP. See the forecast here

TAs expected, fuel prices should register a mixed behavior at the start of next week. According to data released by the Ministry of Finance in a statement, the price of gasoline should rise by one cent per litre, while the value of diesel should drop by 6.8 cents per litre. This taking into account the fact that the values of the ISP discounts will remain.

“Next week, the ISP unit rates will remain unchanged, maintaining the application of the discounts currently in force”, can be read in the statement sent by the ministry led by Fernando Medina.

Therefore, next week the global relief of the tax burden on fuels through the weekly ISP update mechanism, as well as the “reduction of the unit rates of this tax to the equivalent of a VAT rate of 13%”, will continue to totaling 21.5 cents per liter of diesel and 22.5 cents per liter of gasoline.

The Ministry of Finance also points out that this situation “will be reassessed next Friday, May 20th”, as part of the weekly review of the ISP update mechanism. This is a measure that, as explained by the Finance Department, “ensures the return of any extraordinary VAT revenue in view of the prospect of price evolution”.

A source from the sector had already advanced this Friday to Notícias ao Minuto that there should be, at the beginning of next week, a slight rise in the price of gasoline, with a somewhat more accentuated decline to be seen in diesel.

Remember that, earlier this week, diesel and gasoline became more expensive again – with the addition of simple gasoline 95 being more pronounced than that of simple diesel.

According to data released this week by the Regulatory Authority for Energy Services (ERSE), the average selling price of simple gasoline to the public increased by 7.6% in March compared to February, to 1.975 euros per litre. In simple diesel, the rise was 11.3%, to 1,901 euros.
