Does ‘Dune’ really deserve a sequel?

Dune will premiere this weekend in the States and China, among others. In North America and wherever the streaming service is available, the film from director Denis Villeneuve (Blade Runner 2049) also appear on HBO Max.The film adaptation of the well-known 1965 book by Frank Herbert currently stands at more than 130 million dollars, but the cinema and HBO Max success in the States and the figures in China and the United Kingdom determine whether the final sequel Dune: Part Two is coming.

But does Dune deserve a sequel?
In the reactions to various articles about the film on FilmTotaal you can read varying reactions. Some people love Dune. “This deserves a part 2. What a good film. And I don’t even like the genre. Timothée Chalamet is really good and the music of Hans Zimmer is really great again,” writes Bond007.

Others thought the film was too long and boring. “Didn’t like it much, camera work is fine, but watching a desert for almost 150 minutes is a long time,” according to Nature. “You also get tired of those weighty looks and close-ups in the long run. No, still a disappointment.”
