Domestic violence. More than 142,000 victims recorded in 2019, up 16%

390 cases of domestic violence per day in France. The police and gendarmerie services recorded a 16% increase in domestic violence, which affected 142,310 people of all sexes combined in 2019, announced Monday, November 16, 2020 the statistics service of the Ministry of the Interior.

About 88% of victims of domestic violence are women, or 125,840, a stable proportion compared to 2018, according to these figures from the ministry, which do not count homicides.

In 2019, 146 women were killed by their spouse or ex-partner, 25 more than the previous year, according to the latest official figures. Among this violence, 3% concern complaints for rape or sexual assault, 98% of which are filed by women (4,320 out of 4,400).

The Doubs particularly concerned

The highest rates of domestic violence are found in Doubs (as in 2018) followed, but at a lower level, by Côte-d’Or, Côtes-d’Armor and Seine-Saint-Denis. Corsica and Creuse, on the other hand, have the lowest rates.

According to the Living Environment and Safety victimization surveys carried out by INSEE to supplement the raw data of the complaints registered, 295,000 people, including 213,000 women, declare on average that they have been victims of physical and / or sexual violence by their spouse. or ex-spouse between 2011 and 2018.
