SANTO DOMINGO.– The Dominican Tennis Federation (Fedotenis) announced the teams that will participate in the Davis Cup and the Central American and Caribbean Games in El Salvador.
The Davis Cup tournament will be held in Asunción, Paraguay, from June 19 to 24 of this year.
Dominican has the opportunity again to climb to World Group II.
The Creole team will compete in group III of the American Zone in 2023, with the teams of Bahamas, Bermuda, Bolivia, Costa Rica, Honduras, Panama, Paraguay and Venezuela.
The Dominicans will have in Asunción, at the International Tennis Club, a clay surface, the players Peter Bertran, Alejandro Gandini, Alberto Puello and Enmanuel Muñoz. The captain is still Jhonny Berrido.
“It is a young, renewed team that we will take to the Davis Cup,” said Sergio Tobal, vice president of Fedotenis when giving the information.
“We have players who will not be able to participate in Asunción because they have other tournaments that accumulate points,” said Tobal, who valued the newcomers of the Creole team that are developing and who can raise the flag in this Davis Cup event.
Bolivia is seeded in Group A, while the Dominican Republic will be seeded in Group B.
The first two teams in each Group go up to World Group II. There is a third team that is also advancing. The event is a round robin.
Central American and Caribbean Games
Tobal added that the Dominican Republic will also take part in the Central American and Caribbean Games, to be held in El Salvador from June 23 to July 8.
The Creole team that will be looking for gold again in the tournament will have Nick Hardt as the first racket, Roberto Cid and Peter Bertran. Jhonny Berrido will be the captain team.
It is worth mentioning that Víctor Estrella won gold in the event in 2018, Cid won silver.
While the women’s team will have Kelly Williford, Ana Zamburek and María Gell. Daisy Espinal will be the captain.
Williford and José Olivares won mixed silver in that 2018 event.
