The Special Staff of the Minister of State Secretary (Mensesneg), Faldo Maldini, responded to the results of the Saiful Mujani Research and Consulting (SMRC) survey, which the majority of respondents rejected the postponement of the election or the extension of the term of office of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi). Faldo asked that those related to the issue not be associated with Jokowi.

“The issue of extension issues, don’t all relate to what the President wants. We have a running system and state administration, a constitution that is our reference in the state. There, we don’t have to develop it,” Faldo told reporters, Saturday (2/4). /2022).

Faldo said the government always pays attention to public opinion in its work. According to him, whatever the government does can generate public opinion, although that is not the main goal.

“Our main goal, of course, is to solve the problem of the community’s need to rise from this pandemic. It means to work harder,” he said.

“What kind of public opinion is, let it be a dynamic in democracy. Everyone’s attitudes and opinions must be protected by the state. His attitude is in line with the government, that’s another matter. The duty of the state is to protect the right of opinion of every citizen,” he added.

As is known, SMRC released a survey related to the postponement of the election or the extension of President Jokowi’s term of office. As a result, the majority of respondents rejected the postponement of the 2024 election for any reason.

The survey was conducted on March 13-20 2022 involving 1,220 respondents aged 17 years or older or who were married when the survey was conducted. Respondents were selected randomly or multistage random sampling in 34 provinces.

Margin of error the survey sample size is estimated at 3.12 percent at the 95 percent confidence level. Selected respondents were interviewed face-to-face.

The survey asked respondents’ opinion if the election was postponed until 2027 for several reasons. The reason is that the election was postponed due to COVID-19, economic conditions, and the development of the IKN.
