A motorist was injured in the night from Saturday to Sunday after his vehicle collided with a guard rail and came to a stop on the A73 near Sint Odiliënberg.
At around 4:00 am, things went wrong on the highway.
The driver was driving north, after which he is believed to have dozed while driving and ran off the road. He slammed into a guardrail, after which the car ended up on its head. A motorist driving behind him was unable to brake in time and collided with the vehicle.
The emergency services arrived quickly. The driver who fell asleep was eventually taken to hospital with unknown injuries.
Both vehicles were heavily damaged. A salvor has towed the cars away. The A73 at Sint Odiliënberg has been closed for some time.
