“Dune 2” theatrical release: sequel confirmed – News 2021

After “Dune” was shown in cinemas more than a month before its American theatrical release, it was not possible to make a precise forecast about the success of the film for a long time. But now Dune has also become a success in the USA and a sequel has been confirmed immediately. There is even a theatrical release already.

In “Dune” the audience learns how the young Paul Atreides, son of a duke, moves with his family and followers to the inhospitable desert planet Arrakis. Once there, it doesn’t take long for the Atreides to get into an ambush planned by the previous rulers of Arrakis, the Harkonnen. Paul has to flee into the desert with his mother and at the end of the film he joins the Fremen, a desert people who live hidden in caves.

The film by director Denis Villeneuve is based on the novel “Der Wüstenplanet” by Frank Herbert, but only tells the first half of the book. So what the sequel will be about is already clear. Paul lives with the Fremen and learns their manners and customs. He is seen more and more as a prophet and so gradually rises in their ranks. Ultimately, Paul plans to take revenge on the Harkonnen and the Emperor who made the Harkonnen ambush possible.
