In memory of those who died of the corona pandemic, a wreath was laid on Sunday, April 18, at the Düsseldorf Südfriedhof, with a minute’s silence.

In addition to the mayor Dr. Stephan Keller, the head of the crisis team, city director Burkhard Hintzsche as well as mayor Josef Hinkel and the mayors Clara Gerlach and Klaudia Zepuntke also took part in the event.

All those present placed a white rose at the newly created memorial near the chapel of the south cemetery. A turkey was planted there in advance, as well as a memorial plaque and a light stele with a candle to commemorate the victims of the pandemic.

The memorial plaque bears the following inscription: “In memory of those who died of the corona pandemic. The corona pandemic has caused a lot of suffering worldwide. People in Düsseldorf also died as a result of the virus disease. The state capital Düsseldorf commemorates their deceased. The sympathy of everyone Urban society applies to all survivors and especially to those who were not allowed to be close to their loved ones at the hour of parting. Düsseldorf, April 2021 – Dr. Stephan Keller, Lord Mayor of the State Capital Düsseldorf. “

The silent commemoration took place in connection with the “Central Memorial Event for the Fatalities in the Corona Pandemic” by Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier on April 18 in Berlin. The Federal Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of the Interior NRW had ordered mourning flags for this day. So far, 342 people who were infected with the corona virus have died in Düsseldorf.
