Dutch Unicorn arrives in Portugal and wants to hire 100 people by 2023 – Observer

Mollie, a Dutch payment processor startup valued at over €5.4 billion, has chosen Lisbon to open its first “Development Centre”. THE fintech (financial technology startup) wants to hire 100 people for this space by 2023, and by the end of 2021 the company “expects to hire up to 20” employees.

The arrival of the unicorn (company valued at more than one billion dollars) Mollie in Portugal comes after the fintech having raised €665 million in the Series C round. Marco dos Santos, chief technology officer at Mollie, says: “Mollie is one of the biggest fintechs companies in Europe and we have solid plans to accelerate the development of products that respond to the growing needs of our more than 120,000 customers”.

We are very excited to come to Portugal and we believe that Lisbon is a fantastic base to install our new Development Center, having thousands of software engineers and product managers in the region. The Portuguese capital has a very strong and fast-growing technology ecosystem and a diversity of world-class science and engineering universities”, says Marco dos Santos.

Diogo Antunes, senior engineering manager at Mollie, will coordinate this new development center. In a statement, he says his leadership at this new location will “help Mollie realize its vision of becoming the world’s preferred payment service provider.”
