Dynamo kyiv falls and complicates its pass to the Champions League

Dynamo kyiv now face an even more difficult mission to qualify for the Champions Leagueafter Benfica won the first leg of the playoff 2-0 on Wednesday.

The Dynamo’s fifth game in qualifying at the Champions League in the last month it was played in Poland because Ukraine cannot host UEFA matches due to the invasion that Russia launched in February.

Benfica started well and went ahead after nine minutes when Brazilian defender Gilberto joined the attack to score with a cannon shot.

Gonçalo Ramos, striker for the Portugal U-21 team and who was wanted by several teams, scored the second in the 37th minute with an assist from David Neres.

Ramos, who had a hat-trick in the third qualifying round against Midtjylland, came on in the second half and was replaced by former Dynamo striker Roman Yaremchuk.

Benfica will host the second leg next Tuesday in Lisbon, risking their place in the lucrative group stage.

The Ukrainian Shakhtar Donetsk already has his place in the group stage of 32 teams.

In other first-leg games on Tuesday, Maccabi Haifa recovered to beat 1991 European champions Red Star Belgrade 3-2 and Qarabag drew 0-0 with Viktoria Plzen.
