For the first time in the Pays de la Loire, the hospitals of Nantes, Angers and Le Mans have set up DIPPE systems, for Early Detection and Intervention in Emerging Psychotic Disorders. Their main objective is the early detection of mental disorders in people aged 15 to 30.

This is a first in the Pays de la Loire. A DIPPE project, for Early Detection and Intervention in Emerging Psychotic Disorders, welcomes its first patients aged 15 to 30 this Wednesday, April 26 in its Nantes structure. This is a request from the Ministry of Health in the context of a missing link in the care chain, particularly in the early detection of cases of schizophrenia and bipolarity. The services need more information on this problem in order to better identify the warning signs, and thereby limit the emergence of these disorders.

It is extremely important to make visible this type of device

Mental health is a subject that has emerged in force after periods of confinement, as confirmed by Julien Baslé, coordinator of the DIPPE team in Nantes and interviewed by Elouen Rouchy: “We don’t talk about it enough, all the more so in the context of psychosis because there are studies that show that the earlier we intervene with young people, who have started to have insidious signs of the disease, the more we will treat this quickly, the more we will limit the functional impact of the disease. It is extremely important to make this type of device visible, to talk about it around you so that these young people and those around them do not remain alone, so that they can be directed towards appropriate devices and so that they can be taken care of as soon as possible.”

A diagnosis of schizophrenia

This rapid care allows above all to limit the development and impact of these disorders, according to Julien Baslé: “it is not because we have gone through a first psychotic episode that we will necessarily repeat another one. Studies testify to the fact that 30% of people who go through a first psychotic episode will not repeat a second one. On the other hand, there are situations in which the disorders will evolve and a diagnosis of schizophrenia will be able to be made. The idea of this device is really to limit the functional impact of the disease, and for some people, making sure they don’t develop that first episode of psychotic transition.”

“A 3-year accompaniment”

The very young structure will be able to accommodate a few dozen patients for its first year but it expects a rise in power in the following years. There is a real expectation on the part of health professionals, but especially individuals. “We will welcome 25 patients per center over the first 3 years of the system, i.e. 25 patients in year one, 50 in year two and 75 in year three. We will ramp up to year 3 whether in Nantes, Angers or Le Mans. We are of course on support for a period of 3 years, it must be clear from the start. The objective is to put everything in place so that at the end of these three years the accompanied person can have all his support around him and that we can withdraw having secured his situation and that he feels herself safe. »
