“Een jecke blood donation – if not jitz, then when!?'” – blood donations during carnival

Press release from 04.02.2023

Everyone knows it: once inattentive and it happened. With a bit of bad luck you can also get injured. An accident happens faster than you think. It’s a good thing that Germany has a functioning health system and modern medicine. But what does not exist is artificially produced blood!

Selters/Weidenhahn. Unfortunately, 97 percent of the German population rely on the only three percent of their fellow citizens who regularly donate blood. Despite the increased number of donors since mid-January, the situation is still tense: on average, those responsible have a few days’ stocks for all blood groups/preparations – setting them up takes a lot of time. In addition, it is essential to create a buffer so that the dramatic effects that we unfortunately had to record during the emergency do not occur again.

Hence the appeal from the DRK: Please go donate blood now! The advantages for every donor: You have a regular health check. Among other things, blood pressure and body temperature are measured. The blood is then examined for infections such as HIV, syphilis or hepatitis. Promotion: If you come to the appointment as a multiple donor together with a first-time donor, you will receive a large, high-quality umbrella as a special gift.

Term:
Weidenhahn: Heavy Thursday, February 16, 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m
Selters: Carnival Saturday, February 18, 1:30 p.m. to 5 p.m
Appointments can be booked here.

Requirements:
1. Age: 18 to 75 years (first time donors up to 68 years)
2. Weight: over 50 kg
3. Minimum distance to previous blood donation: 56 days
4. Official ID: e.g. ID card, driver’s license
5. Able to donate after medical examination: drink a lot (at least two liters) and don’t have an empty stomach

In addition, you can have yourself typed by the Stefan Morsch Foundation for stem cell donation – even without donating blood.

Information on the current hygiene regulations can be found here. (PM)
