Egypt announces new increase in natural gas production
Abu Dhabi – Sky News
Egyptian Oil Minister Tariq al-Mulla said on Thursday that his country aims to increase the production of gas from its giant field “back” in the Mediterranean to about 1.750 billion cubic feet per day in August.
Al-Mulla said in a press release that the rates of domestic production of natural gas in Egypt increased to about 6 billion cubic feet per day.
He added that the “operation of the third unit of the gas treatment plant for the field project of noon” has been completed.
Egypt is seeking to accelerate production from its newly discovered fields and is looking to halt imports by 2019, with self-sufficiency at the end of this year.
The Italian “Eni” discovered the “back” field in 2015, and has reserves estimated at 30 trillion cubic feet of gas.
In May, Egypt’s gas production was 5.7 billion cubic feet per day.
