KOMPAS.com – Starlink satellite internet service is starting to be used in Indonesia, although still on a limited basis.
The satellite internet belonging to the company owned by Elon Musk was used at the Garuda Shield 16 2022 Joint Exercise (LATMA) event in Amborawang, Samboja sub-district, Kutai Kartanegara district, East Kalimantan province.
Telkomsat as the owner of the exclusive anchoring rights for Starlink services in Indonesia, will provide the satellite internet service on a limited basis from July 15 to August 31, 2022.

Starlink has been used to meet telecommunications needs and support the smooth and successful LATMA activities involving 14 countries, namely Indonesia, United States of America, Australia, Malaysia, Japan, Singapore, France, United Kingdom, Papua New Guinea, Timor Leste, India, Canada, New Zealand, and South Korea.
Danton Opforce, Lt. Czi Mashabi quoted KompasTekno from the official Telkomsat website, said the presence of the Starlink service which provides smooth communication during this LATMA.
“Before Starlink, we only got one bar (lines of) signals, even then sometimes they disappear completely,” said Mashabi quoted KompasTeknoThursday (11/8/2022).
“But after Starlink, the signal we got in Amborawang full (full). For communication, the internet is smooth, and there are no obstacles at all,” Mashabi continued.

Meanwhile, the President Director of Telkomsat, Lukman Hakim Abdul Rauf, said that Telkomsat was committed to providing the best service and fully supporting the success of this cross-country joint training activity.
“Various preparations have been made by Telkomsat as much as possible to support the implementation of this LATMA. We make sure Starlink devices and communication facilities are safe and running normally,” said Lukman.
“Hopefully, with the communication tools that we have provided, we can meet the communication needs of the soldiers and of course this will also encourage Telkomsat to continue to contribute to providing the best for the country.” close Lukman.

The Starlink service was chosen to support LATMA Garuda Shield-16 because it is considered to have many advantages, such as processing speed delivery installation with lightweight and portable devices, speed broadband equivalent fiber opticand supports 5G services.
Telkomsat itself has obtained the Special Non-Geostationary Satellite Anchoring Rights (NGSO), which allows satellite companies such as Starlink, to sell their satellite capacity to Telkomsat.
Later, the capacity of the Starlink satellite will be used to connect Telkom’s fiber optic services in places where it is difficult to build fiber optics.
Starlink internet service itself until May 2022 has been present in 32 countries in the world, including in the UK, France, Spain, Portugal, Lithuania, Denmark, Germany, Australia, Chile, to Mexico.
