FREIBURG IM BREISGAU (GERMANY): Outstanding performances despite many obstacles: At the 12th federal evaluation games of the fire brigade music in Freiburg im Breisgau on September 23rd and 24th, 2022, music groups competed in the upper, middle and lower grades.
“The diversity of the sound bodies is enormous,” said Karl-Heinz Banse, President of the German Fire Brigade Association, enthusiastic about the performances. The event was supposed to take place in 2020, but was postponed twice due to the pandemic.
DFV Federal Staff Leader Thorsten Zywietz thanked State Staff Leader Nico Zimmermann and the organizational team of the Freiburg fire brigade under Andreas Huck and Alexander Frank for the preparation and implementation of the event. “Thank you for this commitment!” He also addressed the members of all participating music groups.
The DFV President praised the “sound fire” in which the population also celebrated the 12th national competition on Friday on the Münsterplatz. “This concert in a unique setting was a highlight,” he summed up. A reception had previously taken place in the historic department store to kick off the event. Here Banse had reminded that the fire brigades had to comply with special hygiene measures as part of the critical infrastructure due to the corona pandemic.
“The fire brigade music held out despite the difficult times when no trial operation was possible,” he said. Mayor Stefan Breiter said it was a great honor for Freiburg im Breisgau to host the 12th national competition. “This musical experience was prepared with a lot of commitment and enthusiasm,” he reported. Freiburg im Breisgau offered perfect conditions, among other things with the concert hall for the stage evaluation and the conclusion.
“Fire service is diversity, also in music. Music is important for the youth work of the fire brigades,” explained Undersecretary Hermann Schröder from the State Ministry of the Interior, who once played music with the fire brigade minstrels. dr Frank Knödler, President of the State Fire Brigade Association, described the fire brigade music as “the icing on the cake at every event – from shawms to symphonic music to the big band.”
