The United States is preparing new sanctions against Russia because of its continued support for Syrian President Bashar al Assad , said on Sunday the ambassador of Washington to the United Nations, Nikki Haley.
In an interview with CBS, Haley said sanctions would be announced on Sunday by Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin.
“They will target directly any type of company that has relation with equipments linked to Assad and the use of chemical weapons,” said Haley.
UNITED STATES TROOPS WILL NOT COME OUT OF SYRIA UNTIL OBJECTIVES ARE FULFILLED
Nikki Haley also said that her country will not withdraw troops from Syria until its objectives are met.
On the Fox News television network, Haley listed three US targets: ensuring that chemical weapons are not used in any way that jeopardizes the interests of U.S , that the Islamic State is defeated and that there is an advantageous position to observe what Iran is doing.
Our goal is “to see US troops return home, but we will not leave until we know we have achieved those goals,” Haley said.
When asked about relations between the United States and Russia, Haley said the ties were “very tense,” but that Washington still hopes to improve them.
