(Elbil24): Every new passenger car on the European market will at some point be sent through the tough ordeal – Euro NCAP’s bone-hard collision and safety tests.

For car manufacturers, it is voluntary to participate, but it is not at all considered good marketing not to want to submit cars for testing.

These tests are the only common European standard that exists, in terms of safety.

The requirements for getting the top rating 5 out of 5 stars are getting tougher. Considering that the Ford Mustang Mach-E has had to withstand some criticism, including in a so-called “moose test” recently, the excitement was great whether it would manage a full house in the tough collision tests of Euro NCAP.

Elbil24 has, together with an international test team, also run moose tests of standard Mach-E and compared to the top model Mach-E GT:

Four-part test

The cars are measured according to how safe you are in it, and how “kind” the car is with other road users, if you should be unlucky and come across something or someone. The cars are also measured by how good they are at avoiding an accident through active and passive safety systems.

The tests are mainly divided into four parts.

  • Adults in the car
  • Children in the car
  • Soft traffic edges
  • Security systems

Five stars

The cars get partial marks on each of the four parts, which are finally summed up in a number of stars, where five stars are full houses. However, this does not mean that there is a full score on all the subtests. For example, the Mustang Mach-E gets 69 percent credit for how it behaves in collisions with soft road users.

However, that was not enough to deprive them of the top rating – five out of five stars. It is also worth mentioning that it scored better than the recently tested Ioniq 5, on two of four test points, equal to one and somewhat lower on the last one (assisted safety features).
