Everything we know about Oculus Quest 2 – Reveal Leaked

The newest innovation in VR headsets was leaked recently, and what’s most shocking about this is that the company behind the device was responsible. That’s right: the leak actually came from Facebook. It has created a huge amount of buzz within the game development industry since, as plenty of different companies want a piece of the VR action.

VR technology has moved forwards a lot over the last few years and it has even seen a move into online casinos in countries like New Zealand take place. This is an example of the wide scope of VR at the moment and where it can move in the future. It’s seen as the next step in gaming by many industry professionals and players, so the opportunity to create games for the platform is a big attraction to developers. With a lot of the specs revealed, as well as some added extras, numerous companies could be starting work on their next-generation games before we know it. So, what did we find out from the latest leak?

Easier on your Neck, with Higher Specs

The first thing that players will notice when using the Oculus Quest 2 is that the headset is lighter. While weight wasn’t a huge problem on the original, making the device lighter means that users will be able to play for longer without needing to worry about neck strain. Even though this could be considered a minor improvement, it’s still one advantage that the new version will have over the original.

In terms of performance, the Oculus Quest 2 is an improvement on the original. Even though the first version received some excellent reviews from critics, it still showed room for improvement. Facebook has clearly taken notice, and that’s where the specs stand out.

The device’s resolution has been increased. In fact, Facebook has come out and said that it will have the highest resolution for any headset that the company has ever created. This is certainly big talk, and will grab many players’ attention.

The RAM has been increased from 4GB to 6GB, which will give the Oculus Quest 2 the capabilities to deal with more complex games. It will also include 256GB of storage. This might not seem like a lot, but when you consider that the Quest 2 will mainly be used in conjunction with other gaming devices (such as desktops), it’s actually quite a generous amount.

The device will also utilize stereo sound that pinpoints the position of effects in 3D. This will create a fully-immersive experience which allows players to delve deep into some of the cutting-edge VR games that will be available on the Oculus Quest 2.

Will you need Other Devices to use it?

The simple answer is no, you won’t. The Oculus Quest 2 will be a fully standalone device. However, this doesn’t mean that you can’t use it in conjunction with other devices. For example, you will be able to plug the Oculus Quest 2 into your desktop to get access to a wide variety of VR games.

This will enable you to benefit from increased power, and can make it much easier to enjoy the full VR experience. This means that once you have bought an Oculus Quest, you will be able to jump right into making the most of your equipment’s capabilities. If you already have a gaming PC, you will also gain access to the wider variety of VR titles the platform will offer.

It’s not all positive, though. One area where the Oculus Quest 2 has fallen down recently is the news that Facebook will require users to input their Facebook logins as a method of accessing the device. This hasn’t gone down well in Germany, and Quest devices will no longer be sold there until the issue is resolved. This could lead to people avoiding the device because they’re worried about privacy.

However, if you’re not worried about using a Facebook login to play games, this new product could well be the right VR device for you. As more news about the price and release date trickle through, you will be able to make a more concrete, informed decision. It should be said that VR is expected to be the next big breakthrough in gaming, so if you’re a big gamer, the Oculus Quest 2 should be at the top of your shopping list.
