Chennai: Former Indian Test opener Murali Vijay has retired from international cricket. The Chennai star, who was a regular presence in the Indian squad in Test cricket, has scored 3982 runs in 61 matches. The player has worn the pads in 87 matches across all formats for India. Vijay scored 4490 runs for India in his international cricket career. Murali Vijay announced his retirement from cricket by sharing an emotional post on Twitter.

Murali Vijay has also played for Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals (Delhi Daredevils) and Kings Ilan Punjab in the IPL. In domestic cricket, Murali made several appearances for the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association. The star was not able to perform well in the ODI format. But at one point, Murali was at the top of the list of Indian Test cricket specialists.

Murali, who started his international cricket career against Australia in 2008, last wore pads for India against the same team. Murali Vijay last played for India in the 2018 match against Australia in Peru. The 38-year-old former India player shared his retirement note on Twitter, thanking BCCI, Tamil Nadu Cricket Association, Chennai Super Kings and TNP team Chemblast Sanmark.

Along with that, the actor has thanked the fans, coaches, teammates, family and friends who have been there for him at all times of his career. Murali Vijay also informed in his note that he is now preparing to enter another world of cricket. The 38-year-old actor stated that he is planning to change his field of work in the business sector of cricket.
