Jens Spahn has triggered a debate over poverty in Germany. For his statements on Hartz IV, the designated health minister receives a lot of criticism, even from the coalition partner SPD.
The majority of people in Germany sees Spahn’s position also very critical, as a representative survey of polling institute Civey for FOCUS Online shows. Even among Union voters, there are many Spahn critics. Although a clear majority of 60.7 percent of supporters of CDU and CSU fully or rather agrees with his statement.
