The news that Ferrari tried to lure chief designer Adrian Newey away from Red Bull has surfaced several times in the past period. The specialist also admitted that he received several offers from the people of Maranello over the past years, but he stayed with the energy drinkers.
However, Ferrari was not only attracted by Newey’s knowledge: according to motorsport boss Helmut Marko, they wanted to lure Christian Horner to Italy last year, when the team was looking for a successor to Mattia Binotto, the former team boss.

“It took me a whole night to convince Horner to stay at Red Bull,” recalled Marko, adding that the salary of their team boss increased by “millions”.
The Austrian did not clarify exactly when all this happened, only that it was during last season. In any case, it could have been quite early, given that, according to previous news, Frederic Vasseur, the current team boss, already agreed in the first half of the year that he will be at the helm of Ferrari from 2023.
