Facebook: Announce Massive Layoff of 11,000 Employees in Meta – Technology News – Technology

The American technology Meta, owner of Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagramplans to lay off some 11,000 workers, 13 percent of its workforceaccording to a statement published this Tuesday on its website and signed by Mark Zuckerberg himself.

“Today I share with you some of the most difficult changes we have made in the history of Meta (…) I want to take responsibility for these decisions and how we got here. I know this is difficult for everyone, and I am especially sorry to those affected,” CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in a message to staff.

These layoffs, according to the head of Meta, they aim to achieve a more agile and efficient company and respond to changes in the economic and business environment.

The layoffs, according to the economic newspaper The Wall Street Journal on Wednesday, are the first major staff reductions in the company’s 18-year history.

Before the announcement, Meta had a staff of 87,000 people.

Twitter’s new owner, Elon Musk, laid off half of his staff last week. These platforms whose business model is based on advertising suffer particularly from budget cuts by advertisers, affected by inflation and rising interest rates.
