The DS Automobiles brand has revealed a modernized version of the DS 7 Crossback model. It relies on a more luxurious look inside and out, and a new top engine tuned from DS Performance has been added.
The DS 7 Crossback was the first car fully run by the young carmaker DS Automobiles, which had no directly related Citroën. The luxury SUV was introduced in 2017, so it was high time to modernize. At DS Automobiles, they took it nicely from the floor, and although the car is still recognizable at first glance as the DS 7 Crossback, almost everything was achieved. Maybe the name is similar, but different – the car will be named only DS 7, Crossback is dropped.
In front, the novelty can be recognized mainly by the larger mask with sharper edges and narrower headlights DS Pixel LED Vision 3.0 promising a stronger and larger cone of light with a more regular shape. Probably the biggest change on the front of the car is a new element, which the manufacturer calls the DS Light Veil. It is a “veil” of daytime running lights and turn signals, which seems to lower from the outer edges of the headlights downwards. It is a polycarbonate cover, behind which 33 diodes are hidden. From the inside, it is painted in the same color as the body, into which stripes were laser-burned, through which the diodes then shine through.
The taillights, like the headlights, are thinner, giving it a dark metallic finish. The stern as a whole also has slightly sharper lines and the inscription CROSSBACK in the originally silver bar between the lights has now replaced the inscription DS AUTOMOBILES. The side will be captivated by a pair of new 19 “wheel discs – Edinburgh and Silverstone – which have inserted covers to improve aerodynamics. 20 “wheels remain and new are 21” Brooklyn discs available exclusively for the new DS 7 E-Tense 4×4 360.
The highlight of the rejuvenated DS 7 range is the Opera version, whose interior is upholstered in Nappa leather in Basalt Black or Pearl Gray. Nappa leather with a decoratively treated surface is now also on the dashboard and in the door panels. The so-called pearl stitching, newly available in White and Zephyr, is interesting.
The interior of the Rivoli version also received a new design in Basalt Black, while in the Performance Line version it is possible to find the interior in a deeper shade of black, which includes Alcantara upholstery. The Bastille design was given new details and the surface of the dashboard, whose structure resembles fish scales.
Infotainment has a new 12 ”touch screen and a completely redesigned user interface, which the driver can adjust to a large extent according to his needs, while voice control is also supported. The screen can also display the output from the front or rear camera, or mirror the smartphone.
The drive of the modernized DS 7 is mainly taken care of by plug-in hybrid powertrains. Performance brand indicates values of 225, 300 and 360 horses. The weakest variant of the DS 7 E-Tense 225 combines a PureTech 180 petrol engine with a 110-horsepower electric motor, while the total output of 225 hp flows through an eight-speed automatic exclusively to the wheels of the front axle.
The middle version of the DS 7 E-Tense 4×4 300, as well as the top version of the DS 7 E-Tense 4×4 360, are driven by the wheels of both axles. The basis is a PureTech 200 petrol engine cooperating with electric motors on the front (110 hp) and rear axle (112 hp).
All plug-in hybrids are equipped with larger, 14.2 kWh batteries allowing you to travel up to 65 kilometers purely on electricity. It is said that it is up to 81 kilometers in the city. Charging a 7.4 kWh charger takes about 2 hours. In addition to the DS 7 hybrids, it will also offer a diesel version with a BlueHDi 130 engine. Outside Europe, pure combustion versions with outputs of 130, 215 and 225 hp will also be available.
In addition to the DS 7 E-Tense 4×4 360 version, let’s mention that it received a 15 mm lower chassis, a 24 mm wider track at the front and 10 mm at the rear. The front brake discs have a diameter of 380 millimeters and, as mentioned above, are hidden behind 21 “wheels exclusively available for this model. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h takes place in 5.6 seconds. The DS Performance department took care of tuning the driving characteristics and the way in which the top car uses energy.
Chassis and safety
The rejuvenated DS 7 received the DS Active Scan Suspension system, which relies on a road surface camera to adjust the stiffness of the shock absorbers for each wheel separately. The equipment also includes the DS Night Vision night vision system, which is based on an infrared camera that monitors pedestrians, cyclists and animals at a distance of 50 centimeters to 100 meters. The driver is warned of any danger in the digital instrument panel.
There is also a driver attention control system and a DS Drive Assist package capable of autonomous level 2 driving – based on adaptive cruise control capable of stopping and starting the car itself, as well as a system that keeps the car in the lane.
Production and sale
The DS 7 is a global car, manufactured for most of the world in Mulhouse, only for China in Shenzhen. The carmaker will start accepting reservations in France from July 11, with the first copies arriving in stores in September 2022. On the occasion of the facelift, a version of La Première will also be offered, based on the DS 7 E-Tense 4×4 360 Opera. They bet mainly on black details and special plaques.
