Five dead were found in the Bergisches Land after a fire. The police believe that a man killed his family and himself.
After the discovery of five bodies in a residential building in Radevormwald near Wuppertal in the Bergisches Land, the police assume a homicide within the family. According to previous investigations, the father of the family killed his wife, the two one and four-year-old daughters and his 77-year-old mother-in-law.
The murder weapon was a knife. Then the man set the house on fire and killed himself in the same way. “The motive for the act is likely to be seen in the failure of the marital relationship,” said the police and the public prosecutor on Saturday.
“There is no evidence that other people are involved,” said the investigators after the autopsy of the bodies.
What happened before
At 5 p.m. on Friday, an emergency call was received that a house was on fire. During the extinguishing work, the emergency services came across the five bodies. At around 7.30 p.m. the fire brigade left again. There was “nothing left to do”.
The Cologne police set up a homicide squad. Forensics and fire investigators were on site. The area had been cordoned off over a large area.

The fire shattered windows of the house, but otherwise it had left no strong marks. On Saturday, the broken windows were replaced with chipboard and the shutters were lowered.
Proceedings will probably be discontinued
Investigators said the death investigation would be suspended if there was no new information. Investigations against dead perpetrators are not planned. There should be no further information about the deceased, not even about the deed and the living conditions of the family.
In the past few months there have been two comparable cases in North Rhine-Westphalia: In December, a man is supposed to be in Isselburg in Münsterland killed his older daughter and his wifebefore he took his own life. He also wanted to kill the younger daughter. She survived because she locked herself in her room. In A man killed his daughter and wife in Rösrath near Cologne in October and then yourself.
