Within the framework of the global alliance between Fútbol Club Barcelona and UNHCR, the president of the Fútbol Club Barcelona Foundation, accompanied by the general director of the Foundation, Marta Segú, has traveled to Colombia to see first-hand the projects that are being supporting in Arauca and Norte de Santander.
“When we say that Barça is more than a club, it is also because of things like these that the FC Barcelona Foundation does; to be here today with these people, these children and adolescents, refugees and displaced people who are going through very difficult times in their lives. We contribute our small part to help change this situation, with the projects we do with the UNHCR, but also trying to make their situation visible”, stated Joan Laporta.
Since the alliance between FC Barcelona and UNHCR was confirmed in June, Laporta promised to help make visible the problem of the more than 100 million refugees and displaced persons in the world, figures that have increased dramatically due to the war in Ukraine.
As a milestone within this alliance and with the aim of bringing the cause of refugees closer to football fans, the UNHCR logo already appears on the Barça shirt within the sports club’s kit for the 2022-2023 season, and will be extended for the next four seasons.
During his visit, President Joan Laporta delved into the project “Protective environments: guarantees and opportunities for the lives of girls, boys and adolescents” that UNHCR develops with its partner Benposta Nación de Muchachos in the department of Arauca.
Through the SportNet system, of the FC Barcelona Foundation, the aim is to achieve greater physical and emotional well-being of the participating girls and boys, mostly Venezuelan refugees and migrants and internally displaced persons from Colombia.
