On the occasion of her summer tour, Carina Konrad, member of the Bundestag, visited the “Smart City” Linz am Rhein. At the meeting with Mayor Dr. Hans Georg Faust and the first deputy Helmut Muthers were joined by representatives of the local FDP and the first chairman of the Linz advertising community, Didi Pörzgen. As Konrad’s constituency office reports, the deputy chairwoman of the FDP parliamentary group was impressed by the great commitment in the small town.
Linz. “Here the FDP motto ‘Those who love their homeland make it better’ is really brought to life,” said the politician. Together with the associated municipality, the city of Linz am Rhein is one of 28 selected projects of the Smart Cities model projects. With these
the federal government supports municipalities in the strategic design of digitization in the sense of an integrated,
sustainable and public welfare-oriented urban development. The so-called smart cities develop and test cross-sector digital strategies for city life of the future. The motto of the model projects 2021 is “Together out of the crisis: room for the future”. According to Mayor Dr. Faust to create more sustainability, quality of life, digitization and citizen participation.
All ideas would be developed together with the citizens. As the politician’s constituency office further reports, the
walking tour through the picturesque old town with its many half-timbered houses, I noticed that there were hardly any vacancies. This is thanks to the good cooperation between the city and the advertising community, said Muthers. Konrad hopes that in the future more smaller cities will dare to apply as “Smart City”: “In the end everyone will benefit from it”. (PM)
