Feminist groups call for a concentration for sexual and reproductive rights – El Sol de Zamora

Morelia, Michoacán (OEM-Infomex).- The Michoacán Violet Front summoned women to a rally and rally for their sexual and reproductive rights, after the local Congress approved a law that hinders the legalization of abortion in the state.

The demonstration will be next Wednesday, July 6, in front of the State Congress (Avenida Francisco I. Madero Oriente 97, col. Centro) at 5:00 p.m., the group reported through a call broadcast on social networks.

This mobilization arises as after the approval of a reform that guarantees the social, economic and cultural rights of embryos up to five years of age.

Baltazar Gaona García, deputy of the Labor Party (PT) who was the one who presented the proposal, explained that this modification is to avoid the “discrimination” suffered by pregnant women. His bench partner, Gabriela Cázares Blanco, pointed out that “from conception” was added to the law “in a misleading way”, she also indicated that this type of term violates the sexual and reproductive rights of women.

Days after the approval, the civil association Humanas Sin Violencia asked the governor of Michoacán, Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla, to make use of the administrative veto before the determination of the legislative body.

The spokesperson for said organization, Circe López Riofrío, recalled that rights cannot be given to an unborn child, since they can only be subject to rights when they are a person. For this reason, she accused the local Congress of legitimizing hate speech and constantly targeting consolidation that annuls the recognition of women as persons and as subjects of rights.

In turn, the organization Legal Interruption of Pregnancy in Michoacán (ILEMich) urged the Michoacán PT to analyze the actions of Gaona García.

Its founder, Sofía Stamatio, pointed out that the PT’s reform violates the party’s declaration of principles. Likewise, it opposes paying the salaries of the LXXV, since it violates human rights and has the obligation to legislate on abortion after the ruling of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN) of 2021.

“We believe that it is evident that the current legislature is of a current conservative tendency that impacts human rights, the initiative is quite misleading and Baltazar Gaona has specialized in working on data that is distorted and manipulated so that it pretends to look like something else” , he accused.
