Ferdinand doesn’t want to be compared to Saliba: “It’s madness”

William Saliba, 21, has impressed in an Arsenal shirt this season. The centre-back came to the “Gunners” already in 2019 but has been loaned to Ligue 1 for three years in a row, until this year he got the chance to show himself. A chance he has taken.

Sky Sports expert Gary Neville believes that he sees similarities between Saliba and Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand.

– I was enormously impressed by him. He reminded me of a young Rio Ferdinand, Neville told Sky Sports after the Premier League opener against Crystal Palace.

However, Rio Ferdinand, who played for Manchester United between 2002-2014 and was an England international, does not give much to the analogy.

– How old is Saliba? How many Premier League games has he played? How many games had I played at that age? I broke the British transfer record at the time and people want to compare us? It’s madness, says Ferdinand to Vibe with Five according to the Daily Mirror.

– Give the boy time, give him time! He is doing well. But listen, you don’t judge a player when everything is going well. You say: “Brilliant”. I want to see the next phase. When everything goes against you and you get a little anxiety, then I still wanted to see the chest out.

William Saliba has started both of Arsenal’s Premier League games this season.
