The Bundesliga finals will take place in Krefeld from June 8th to 10th. For the first time in the history of the German Squash League (DSL), six teams will be there when the men’s German team championship title is being played. Participating teams are the regular-season teams ranked first to third in the two Bundesliga seasons north and south. In the north these are: Paderborner SC, 1. SC Diepholz and Airport Squash Berlin. Black&White RC Worms, SC Turnhalle-Niederrhein and 1. SC Kempten are from the south.
The SC Turnhalle-Niederrhein offers the two French Babtiste Masotti and Mathieu Castagnet, the Hungarian Balasz Farkas and the two Germans Jan Wipperfürth and Maximilian Baum.
The defending champions and European Cup winners Paderborner SC, who automatically qualify for the semi-finals as the Bundesliga North relay winner, travel to Krefeld with eight players: Raphael Kandra, Simon Rösner, Nicolas Müller, Dimitri Steinmann, Viktor Byrtus, Lucas Wirths, Tobias Weggen and Dennis Welte are in the squad of coach Hendrik Vössing and team manager Friedrich van Rossum. The vice-champion from Worms is also firmly in the semi-finals as the Bundesliga South relay winner and, according to team leader Carsten Schoor, is starting with the following line-up: Paul Coll, Yannik Omlor, Valentin Rapp, Elliott Morris-Devred, Jens Schoor, Carsten Schoor.
“The German team championship promises pure excitement,” says Johannes Wessela, deputy chairman of the DSL. “For the first time in the history of the play-offs, six teams from the respective national leagues will be at the start. With this new format, DSL hopes that this new format will attract greater attention on site and attract more attention from the media and sponsors.” The first hope has already been fulfilled, as there are only a few tickets left. 98 percent are sold.
The teams from Diepholz and Kempten will face off on Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Halle am Bruchfeld, after which the SC Turnhalle Niederrhein will meet Airport Squash Berlin at 6 p.m. The winners will contest the semi-finals on Friday.
