Rüsselsheim/Darmstadt (dpa/lhe) – Unknown persons have stolen catalytic converters worth around a quarter of a million euros from a warehouse of a car dealership in Rüsselsheim (Groß-Gerau district). The 250 components were transported away by the thieves in two cars, which they had previously broken into on the company premises.
The two getaway vehicles left them just a few kilometers from the crime scene and set them on fire, the police said in Darmstadt on Tuesday. This resulted in damage of around 45,000 euros. They had previously reloaded their prey.
There was initially no trace of the thieves. The fire happened on Monday night. According to the police, it was not immediately clear when exactly the theft took place.
