Firm Steps to Demarcate PKB and NU Organizations

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.TV – PARA Syndicate researcher, Virdika Rizky Utama, assessed that the PBNU’s decisive steps in the Gus Yahya Cholil Staquf era were deliberately aimed at drawing limits on practical political influence in NU.

This is because, according to the author of the controversial book Menjerat Gus Dur (2019), the process of drawing the limit includes Abdul Muhaiman Iskandar or Cak Imin through the National Awakening Party (PKB), which historically has been an inseparable part of PBNU.

This is related to the political safari that Cak Imin carried out in various regions in East Java, and he was even suspected of making a declaration of presidential candidacy for 2024 at the NU Branch Management some time ago.

This support resulted in the PBNU’s official summons against PCNU Banyuwangi and Sidoarjo for allegedly supporting Cak Imin and being carried out on behalf of NU.

Not only did they receive official calls, Cak Imin and PKB were also teased by the Deputy Secretary General of PBNU, Rahmat Hidayat Pulungan, who considered this effort to be unorganized and historical.

For Virdi, what he is doing is related to NU’s votes, which may decline, given the firm line that Gus Yahya is making in the 2022-2027 PBNU management period.

“Cak Imin’s step in asking for support is a step he might take to get NU’s vote. Because, as stated by Gus Yahya, there is a clear demarcation line between NU and PKB; NU is not a political tool of PKB,” Virdi told COMPASS TV via WhatsApp message, Wednesday (26/1).

Virdi then explained that the condition of PBNU or NU residents as a whole was different.

“In the past, maybe Cak Imin didn’t need to do that because there were many PKB members in NU. Things are different now.”
