The largest passenger aircraft in the world, the Airbus A380, can be seen daily from today at Hamburg Airport.
The Emirates airline uses the machine on the route between the Hanseatic city and Dubai. The first A380 from the city on the Persian Gulf will be greeted solemnly at Helmut Schmidt Airport. Mayor Peter Tschentscher (SPD), airport chief Michael Eggenschwiler and Emirates vice-president Thierry Antinori are expected. Emirates already flies from Frankfurt, Munich and Düsseldorf with the large-capacity aircraft built in Hamburg. Before starting operations, Hamburg Airport had to make some modifications. At the "parking lot" of the double-decker aircraft, up to 516 passengers can now board three mobile bridges from the terminal, one leads to the upper deck. An existing double passenger bridge was supplemented by another so-called finger. The investments amounted to about 750,000 euros, according to the company.
