jpnn.com, PURWOKERTO – A number of areas in Cilacap Regency, Central Java, were flooded after heavy rains that occurred from Tuesday (20/7) night until Wednesday morning.

The flood-affected areas include two points on the Jeruklegi-Wangon Highway, namely in the Wanasri Hamlet RT 06 RW 06, Jeruklegi Wetan Village, with a height of inundation ranging from 70-80 centimeters and Cironeng Hamlet, Cilibang Village, with a puddle height ranging from 100-120 centimeters.

“Heavy rains that have flushed the Jeruklegi District and its surroundings have occurred since Tuesday (20/7), at 23.00 WIB, until Wednesday (21/7), at 08.00 WIB, and currently it is still drizzling. Meanwhile, puddles began to occur at 03.00 WIB. ,” said Jeruklegi Head Rosikin when contacted from Purwokerto, Banyumas Regency.

Because vehicles cannot pass, he said, the traffic flow on the national road was temporarily diverted through the Jeruklegi-Kawunganten Highway.

“The flooding that inundated the Jeruklegi-Wangon road section was not only caused by the high intensity of the rain, but also due to the silting of the river,” he said.

He said the flood also inundated the Brokeh River bridge in Sawangan Village so that the access of people from that area who were going to Mentasan Village, Kawunganten District, was hampered.

According to him, the flood on the bridge was caused by the bridge body being too low and the supporting pillars too much, so that a lot of garbage got stuck and blocked the flow of the Brokeh River.

“As a result, the water of the Brokeh River overflowed and inundated the bridge,” he said.
