Following Buffon, Oliver Kahn also sends a touching message to Iker Casillas. Page all – Legendary German goalkeeper Oliver Kahn gave a touching message to Iker Casillas who declared his retirement from the gridiron on Tuesday (4/8/2020).

Casillas ended his journey as a professional goalkeeper after an eleven year career in the world of football.

The giants of the Spanish League, Real Madrid, are the team who have felt Casillas’ shrewdness in goal the longest.

He has appeared with Real Madrid’s main squad since 1999 and decided to leave in 2015 to one of the participating clubs in the Portuguese League, FC Porto.

With FC Porto, Casillas faced serious obstacles. He had a heart attack in May 2019 and has never returned to grazing after that.

Casillas’ last match with FC Porto was recorded on May 26, 2019, when he visited the Rio Ave FC headquarters.

After experiencing a heart attack, news of retirement was always attached to the end of Casillas’s career.

The goalkeeper, who is currently 39 years old, had expressed his desire to return to play because he didn’t want to be hit by the difficult situation he had experienced.

However, conditions made Casillas unable to realize this intention. He chose to retire saying that football had become his goal and dream.

“The most important thing is the path you take and the people who accompany you, not where you are going,” wrote Casillas on his personal Twitter account.

“With a combination of work and effort, that goal will present itself, and I can say without a doubt, that it has become a dream and a goal.”

Casillas’ decision then invited a response from his former competitor, Gianluigi Buffon.

The veteran goalkeeper from Italy gave a touching message in tribute to Iker Casillas.

“They say competition makes us better than others, but we are far from perfect in front of ourselves,” Buffon said.

“Maybe this vain pursuit of perfection is what made us who we are. # Grac1as Iker, without you, everything would be meaningless,” he added.

After Buffon, the German goalkeeper, Oliver Kahn, also paid tribute to what Casillas had carved during his career in the world of football.

On his personal Twitter, Kahn recalled some of the momentum he had experienced with Casillas, from the bickering on the pitch to the heat of competition to become the world‘s number one goalkeeper.

“One of the greats has left the football stage. We had great duels, great competition, but mutual respect always comes first,” wrote Kahn.

“Sportsmanship and respect are the most important sport virtues. You always set an example, my friend!” said Kahn.
