Lorient-Rennes 2-1

Goals: Talbi (13th), Le Bris (31st) for Lorient; Tait (73rd) for Rennes

Lorient won the derby against Rennes 2-1 on Friday evening. A second success in two games against the neighbor this season which puts the Hakes in the right direction. Rennes moves away from its side of the podium.

Very concerned by the transfer window for a few days, Lorient had to get back in the saddle in Ligue 1. This especially since the Hakes had won only one of their last nine games. We could be pessimistic this Friday with a derby against Rennes, recent scorer of PSG. The start of the match highlighted Rennes’ domination, in possession and in occupation of the pitch. However, the people of Lorient were extremely efficient. Talbi was found on a corner and placed a winning header. Behind, a counterflash was concluded with a strike in the top corner by Le Bris. A double blow that could have been triple or even quadruple but Koné stumbled twice on an inspired Mandanda.

After the break, if Lorient’s counterattacks remained dangerous, Rennes’ control was increasingly clear. Bruno Génésio’s men were finally rewarded for their efforts. Very good at Moustoir, Hamari Traoré punctured the hake defense before serving Tait on a plate. A reduction in the score which gave hope but Rennes failed to equalise. It is however not for lack of having tried but Mannone and the crossbar intervened in front of Gouiri. Thanks to this success, ahead of rookie Bamba Dieng, Lorient confirms its good start to the season. Les Merlus are sixth, just two points behind Rennes, and position themselves as possible candidates for Europe. Rennes, five points from the podium, made a bad operation and could see OM move away to eight points on Saturday evening.
