The Forum of Presidents of the Legislative Powers of Central America, the Caribbean and Mexico (FOPREL) awarded His Majesty King Mohammed VI the “Esquipulas Peace Prize”, the highest distinction of this regional parliamentary organization.
This distinction was awarded to the Sovereign following a resolution adopted at the opening of the work of the 26th extraordinary session of the Forum which is being held from May 19 to 21 in Rabat, at the seat of Parliament.
The awarding of this Prize comes as a sign of “homage and consideration to the wisdom and courage of HM the King, who holds the general interest high, to reject differences and work constantly to achieve peace between peoples”. , underlines the text of the resolution.
In addition, cooperation between Morocco and FOPREL has led to “positive results and made great progress” since their last meeting held for five years, underlined, Thursday in Rabat, the executive secretary of the Forum, Santiago Ulises. Rivas.
The cooperation between the two parties will gain a new impetus with the signing of an agreement to work on issues of common interest, such as overcoming the repercussions of the Covid pandemic, reforming education laws and combating the climate change, which in turn poses the problem of food security, Rivas said during a joint press conference with the Speakers of the House of Representatives and Councilors, Rachid Talbi Alami and Naama Mayara, at the outcome of the opening session of the 26th extraordinary session of the Forum.
The two parties will also work on resolving the issue of migration through different approaches for legal migration, he added, noting in this regard the presence of representatives of the International Organization for Migration in Central America in this special session.
