“For 18 seconds”, the signing of Julián Araujo by Barcelona fell – ContraRéplica

Barcelona’s football director, Mateu Alemany, assured that the Catalan club could not sign Mexican winger Julián Araujo from the Los Angeles Galaxy “by 18 seconds” at the close of the winter market.

“We did not arrive on time due to a computer error that is being clarified,” Alemany said this Wednesday in statements to Movistar + television, shortly before the start of the league match against Betis.

“It’s probably because of the system so since it’s 18 seconds I don’t know what FIFA is going to do,” added the Barça manager, seeming to leave the door open for the possible arrival of the young winger.

Alemany wanted to make it clear that Julián Araujo “is a player who came to Barcelona Atletic”, a subsidiary of the Barça team, coached by the Mexican Rafa Márquez.

According to the Spanish press, the Los Angeles Galaxy player could have served as an alternative to replace the departure of full-back Héctor Bellerín on his way to Sporting de Portugal.

Barcelona closed the transfer market on Tuesday without making any acquisition beyond registering Gavi, who played with the subsidiary file, in the first team.

Instead, it closed the departures of Bellerín to Portugal and of the Dutch striker Memphis Depay to Atlético de Madrid.
