You are on your way back from India, everything is going well. Until Daniela Widmer and David Och fall into the hands of the Taliban in Pakistan. After eight months in constant fear of death, they literally manage to escape at the very last minute.

Back in Switzerland, public opinion has made their case: they were naive, it was their own fault, and there was no place for sympathy.

Michael Steiner disliked this. The “Sennentuntschi” director was struck by the opinions made and the prejudice. He wanted to correct the picture of the two, as he tells in the interview.

The Swiss director Michael Steiner filmed the story of Daniela Widmer and David Och: The result shows the ZFF as the opening film – an experience that accompanies the former hostages throughout their lives.


In 2013 Daniela Widmer and David Och published their diary “And tomorrow you will be dead: 259 days as hostages of the Taliban”. At the same time she asked Steiner if he could film her story.

At that time he was counting on around two years of production time, now – eight years later – the blue co-production “And you are dead tomorrow” was the opening film at the ZFF. There was a standing ovation.
