For the first time an Amazon wins | Sports at home/abroad

Riding – With Barbara Schnieper, an Amazone wins the Swiss Cup final, which has been held since 1979 and is part of the CSIO St. Gallen, for the first time.

Second place went to Steve Guerdat on Sunday, third was Elian Baumann.

Six couples remained flawless in the first round in the best conditions. Just after the last rider, the Grand Prix winner Martin Fuchs with The Sinner, a thunderstorm erupted over the Gründermoos and the organizers took a break before the decision-making round for safety reasons.

Baumann managed the first double clear ride with Clintfino. The Bernese rode on safety, the time of 56.60 seconds was not an indicator. First, Annina Züger from Schwyz fell out of the decision with Dicannus and two knockdowns. However, Steve Guerdat and Double Jeu remained unblemished. In 49.40 seconds, the Jurassic was seven seconds faster.

Both Fuchs and Bryan Balsiger then failed with Don Juan. Now it was in the hands of Barbara Schnieper and her twelve-year-old mare Judy. The attack was rewarded, Guerdat’s goal didn’t stand up. “I’ve been waiting for the title for a long time. So far I’ve been second twice,” said the native of Solothurn. “Being the first woman to win makes it even more special.”
