For thirteen years he had the mummified body of his mother at home. He could not come to terms with her death

WARSAW. The Polish Prosecutor’s Office is investigating a case in the Silesian Voivodeship where the mummified body of his mother was found in the house of a 76-year-old man. The remains of a woman who died in 2010 were picked up by her son from the family tomb after the funeral.

He tried embalming them and then had them at home for 13 years.

A man from the village of Radlin lived in the family house together with his sister and her husband. Suspecting his mental health, the brother-in-law called a doctor in February. Rescuers who were called then found a corpse on the sofa in his apartment.

DNA tests showed that the mummified body belonged to the mother of the mentioned man, who had died in January 2010. “After opening the grave, it was found that there was no body in the coffin,” said the spokeswoman of the prosecutor’s office in Gliwice.

According to the Polish media, the man could not come to terms with his mother’s death, and that is why he took her home after the funeral. The prosecutor’s office is investigating him in connection with the crime of desecration of a dead body. The suspect is now under the care of psychiatrists.
