This Monday, Dr. Virgil Carballo Zárate, former president of the Colombian Association of Internal Medicine (ACMI), died of covid-19. The 55-year-old doctor had been fighting the coronavirus since August.
Dr. Carballo stayed for a few days at the Medihelp Clinic in Cartagena and was finally transferred to Bucaramanga, where he later died.
The country’s medical associations mourned the death of the internist due to COVID-19. “We are deeply saddened by the departure of an excellent professional and a great human being. We express our solidarity to their families and friends for this incalculable loss for the scientific community in Colombia ”, was the message of José Millán, president of the Colombian Association of Infectology.
President Iván Duque also expressed his condolences for the death of the doctor and stated that this death represents the loss of one of the most recognized figures in the medical community, “someone who has contributed so much to the research and development of medicine in our country”.
