Doors and windows with padlocks and secured, were the facilities of the Fundación Ángeles in Torices on Tuesday, May 4. The 15 workers of this non-profit foundation, who for 9 years have worked in the care of users with physical, cognitive and sensory disabilities, as well as therapeutic management of children and young people with learning and neurological difficulties, agreed to take a break on Wednesday and Thursday, May 5 and 6, to return to work on Friday, May 7.
However, things did not go as planned, so they had to return on Thursday, after learning that friends from outside had joined the foundation taking all the valuable items, such as computers, printers and books or necessary objects for therapies.
“The neighbors heard during the day on Thursday, May 6, several slight noises, but they did not know where they came from, already at night when they heard a loud noise it was that they realized that several young people had entered the foundation and were taking things through the roof ”, indicated Yahara María Meza Cueto, director of the Angeles Foundation.
They ask for help
According to what they said, these people, apart from stealing, would have carried out vandalism inside the foundation’s facilities, since they broke the ceiling, the bathroom set, the doors, the ceiling, the locks, chairs, and other elements of the real estate.
“They took the specialized educational games for the children, fans, computers, sinks, all the biosafety protocol, gel dispenser, printers, photocopier, dishwasher and other electrical things. Also the specialized pedagogical books and some school kits that we had in reserve for the children ”, said Meza.
There are 80 people among children, youth and adults who are linked to the foundation to receive care, who were already prepared to return to their face-to-face therapies. “We were already going to start the alternation, that is why we had all the necessary biosafety elements, but now we are left with nothing,” he explained, adding that “we are asking for everyone’s collaboration to buy things again and open the doors of our foundation.”
The materials that are needed are construction, school supplies, teaching materials, office supplies and classrooms, as well as biosafety, speech therapy and psychomotor materials.
