Two days later French air strikes against Syria, the presidency of the Republic confirmed Monday night “a disciplinary procedure of withdrawal of the Legion of Honor” – the highest distinction French, created by Napoleon I – “in the place of Bashar al-Assad was well engaged” by Emmanuel Macron. The Syrian president was made Grand Cross (the highest rank) of the Legion of Honor by President Jacques Chirac in 2001, shortly after succeeding his father Hafez al-Assad as head of the country. A non-isolated case The procedure of withdrawal of the Legion of Honor belongs to the Grand Master of this order, namely the President of the Republic in office. Emmanuel Macron has already started last year the same step of decay against the American producer Harvey Weinstein , accused of sexual assault and rape. Since 2010, a decree makes it easier to deceive an alien who has “committed acts contrary to honor”. The Legion of Honor has already been removed from American cyclist Lance Armstrong or British designer John Galliano. As far as the French are concerned, this distinction is automatically withdrawn to anyone sentenced to at least one year in prison.
