French hunter (70) shoots bear who bites his calf, self-defense or not? “Hard to Prove”

The seventy-year-old was looking for wild boars in Seix, in the French Pyrenees, with his hunting club when he suddenly came face to face with a bear. The bear attacked him and bit him in both legs. The hunter lost part of his calf. He fired two bullets that would have killed the bear instantly.

Another hunter stopped his colleague’s heavy bleeding until emergency services reached the mountainous area. A helicopter took the seriously injured man in his 70s to hospital.

The bear was found dead a few yards from where the hunter was rescued. An investigation into the exact circumstances is underway.
