“Friesenjung” Goes Viral – Otto Waalkes’ 30-Year-Old Song Becomes Summer Hit of the Year As a Rap Version

An Internet sensation at the age of 74: Otto Waalkes has to be copied first. His 30-year-old song “Friesenjung” is currently storming the charts and is well on the way to becoming THE summer hit of the year – as a rap version.

The Internet has a new catchy tune: On TikTok and Instagram, users are currently celebrating the rappers Ski Aggu and Joost, as they perform together with Otto Waalkes “Friesenjung”. Ski Aggu and Joost musically polished the cult song from 1993 and brought it into the 21st century. Admittedly, not much is left of the original, but the hit goes viral.

One reason for this: Otto Waalkes joined the rappers on Saturday (06/03/23) at the Ski Aggu concert in Hamburg with a cap and guitar – an iconic sight. The crowd freaked out, yelling “Thank you Otto”. After all, he had to give his approval for the remake first. The video of the performance was viewed more than a million times on TikTok within 24 hours.

The official music video for the new edition of “Friesenjung” has also turned into a click success: around 762,000 people have already seen the video on YouTube alone (as of June 6th, 2023). In it, Otto Waalkes dances alongside Ski Aggu and Joost. The dance routine shows: the title has what it takes to be a party hit.

“Friesenjung” has already climbed to number 3 in the German charts. With the streaming service Spotify, he is already trending at the top position.
