The story suggests that the rookie time at the New York Knicks will be short and likely to end in a trade rather than earlier. The first round of this organization is the NBA equivalent of a temporary worker. From Monty Williams to Danilo Gallinari to Kristaps Porzingis, the Knicks have the nastiest habit of discarding their own first-round picks more often than they trigger a head coach.

In the last 25 years, the Knicks have made 22 selections in the first round. This includes the incomparable Frederic Weis, who finished 15th in the 1999 NBA Final just one week after losing the Knicks to the San Antonio Spurs. The Knicks went over Ron Artest in this design, and a year later Weis was shown up by Vince Carter at the 2000 Olympics. But these are stories for another day.
