Full inclusion La Rioja celebrates the approval of the new Universal Accessibility Law

LOGROÑO, Jan. 27 (EUROPA PRESS) –

Full inclusion La Rioja celebrates the approval in the regional Parliament of the new Law of Universal Accessibility of La Rioja, which went ahead last Wednesday, with the support of all groups. The regulation includes, for the first time and explicitly, the right to Cognitive Accessibility and refers to supports such as Easy Reading and the use of pictograms so that people with comprehension difficulties can understand the world around them and thus favor their full inclusion.

In this way, “a claim that Plena Inclusion had been calling for for years so that people with comprehension difficulties can access understandable information: texts, documents, news, environments that they encounter in their day to day and to be able to make use of services such as the rest of the citizenry.

And it is that Cognitive Accessibility is a ‘key right’ that opens the door to other rights such as education, health, housing, employment, etc., they affirm from Plena Inclusion.

According to the WHO (World Health Organization) one in three people has comprehension difficulties. These groups are not limited to people with intellectual disabilities, but also include older people, migrants who do not know the language well, and people with a low level of literacy.

Full inclusion participated in the panel of experts of the commission created in the Parliament of La Rioja to elaborate this Law and from the La Rioja Federation contributions on Cognitive Accessibility were made to the draft of the legal text, as requested.

Full inclusion La Rioja has a Cognitive Accessibility service that supports people with comprehension difficulties. From here, Easy Reading materials are produced, environments are adapted to make them more understandable, and training is provided. People with intellectual disabilities themselves are an active part in the adaptation processes. Likewise, through different programs it is responsible for raising awareness among the Administration, organizations, companies and society in general.
